Favourite 5 Tamil songs - 2015

2015 had more than 200 film releases that had more than 1000 songs. This list contains my favourite 5 songs in 2015 ordered in ascending order of movie name.

1. Ennodu ne irunthal
Movie - I
Singer - Sid Sriram & Sunitha Sarathy
Music - A.R. Rahman
Lyrics - Kabilan

Kabilan's lyrics, Vikram's beast get up, AR Rahmans music combined with Sid sriram's voice made a magic on the screens.

2.Manna manna mental manadhil

Movie - O Kadhal Kanmani
Singer - A.R. Rahman & Jonita Gandhi
Music - A.R. Rahman
Lyrics - Mani Ratnam, A.R. Rahman

AR Rahaman's voice on his own peppy lyrics created a huge exepctation on this song from youth and Mani sir transformed this audio into a wonderful visual.

3.Themai thaan vellum
Movie - Thani Oruvan
Singer - Arvind Swamy & Hiphop Tamizha
Music - Hiphop Tamizha
Lyrics - Hiphop Tamizha

I never expected such a strong song from Hiphop Tamizha. This song was way beyond any theme this year. The one lines from arvind swamy in between the song added more strength to it.

4. Aluma doluma
Movie - Vedalam
Singer - Anirudh Ravichander & Badshah
Music - Anirudh Ravichander
Lyrics - G. Rokesh

The best local song ever heard. Anirudh's voice with Badsha's rap made this song touch heights. Rokesh lyrics had fresh local words, that kept every one singing without even knowing the meaning.

5. Unakenna venum sollu

Movie - Yennai Arindhaal
Singer - Benny Dayal & Mahathi
Music - Harris Jayaraj
Lyrics - Thamarai

The best song that describes father's care for a daughter well. Thamarai has perfectly crafted this song after watching the visuals (which happens the other way usually). Mesmerized by surprise hearing Benny dayal for a melody directed by Harris Jayaraj.

My Favourite 10 movies of 2015

2015 had around 200+ films released, I have listed my favourite 10 movies among them. This list is arranged in ascending order of the movie name and not in any rating order as these movies are across all genres and not comparable with one another.

1.Bahubali

This magnum opus from S S Rajamouli gave us goosebumps while watching it. The way he director has shown things in the movie made the movie a blockbuster without the actual story.

2.Darling

A movie that was released for pongal and considered to be an underdog between I and Ambala was successful from word of mouth review. This movie had a perfect blend of horror, romance and comedy, this in-turn made this movie a Hit.

3. Indru Netru Naalai
This movie was simple and educative on time machine. Unlike Hollywood movies there was no complication for the end audience to understand. This simple script helped the success of the movie.

4.Kaaka Muttai
This tale of 2 kids was amazing, Manikandan has taken a light subject and entertained us with sharp screenplay. The director has portrayed the real slum life with his 109 minutes presentation.

5.Kanchana 2

This movie is no different and has the same blue print of 'muni' series where Ghost enters into Lawrence when he goes into house and gives its flashback and uses him for killing the person who killed he ghost. However gripping comical screenplay with a sound BGM made this movie a "PAKKA MASS".

6.Naanum Rowdydhaan
This movie was a very good comeback for Nayanthara with her brilliant performance. RJ Balaji's one liners added more connection to the screenplay. On a whole this movie was feel good comical entertainer.

7.O Kadhal Kanmani
A come back movie from Mani sir with a subject where he is so strong (romance). This classic cult was written, shot, edited and added music perfectly. One of the best in class romantic cult after alaipayuthae and VTV.

8.Papanasam

I don't think anyone other than Kamal sir could have done justice by taking George kutty's role and playing it as Suyambulingam. Gibran's music worth a mention here.

9.Thani Oruvan

1st direct movie from remake raja turned out to be a pleasant surprise.  Raja has crafted this movie and its character perfectly and gave Arvind swamy a big come back as a massive villain. hip hop thamizha Adi's BGM and songs were top notch. My most favourite movie of 2015.

10.Yennai Arindhaal

A comeback movie for Goutham menon with his own cop story. Arun Vijay as Victor manohar added more value to the screenplay. Love, romance, action, twists, care, affection has been blended to a near perfection manner made this movie a Hit.

This ends the list of my favourite 10 movies, comment your favourite ones below.

Negative
- Slow movie
- Very few comedies

Deep Dive
Story and Screenplay - 1.75/2

The story and screenplay of this movie are little new and falls under untouched areas of Tamil cinema category. If you have expected 5 songs, 4 fight scenes, few jokes and some story to pass time this film is not the right place. Yes this film neither has songs nor jokes. Kamal after being impressed with sleepless night has decided to remake it for tamil audience with little changes.

Music & BGM - 0.7/1

Gibran has given a perfect fit BGM to support the movie. Though the scope for doing BGM is less in this movie has taken conscious efforts to give the best that he could with limited scope.

Cast Performance - 0.5/1

Though this film doesn’t have much scope for acting as it’s purely story/screenplay driven Kamal and Trisha have managed to establish themselves with their experience, other than this duo there is no room to comment on others performance.

Stunt, Editing and Cinematography - 0.7/1

The stunt master has given a best possible stunt scenes in a natural way like how it would be in reality, especially the kitchen fight between Trisha and Kamal is worth a mention here. Editing could have been much better with faster cuts. Cinematography is nether best nor bad but has been decent in covering the entire pub sequence.

Verdict: A once watchable slow thriller for all type of audience.

Overall: 3.65/5

Vedalam (AKA) Vedhalam - Movie Review

Cast and Crew:

Cast: Ajith, Lakshmi Menon, Shruti Haasan, Soori
Story, Screenplay & Direction : Siva
Music: Anirudh Ravichander
Cinematography: Vetri
Editing: Ruben

Positive

- Ajith's Acting and Dance
- Anirudh's BGM
- Colorful picturization
- Screenplay
- Sharp editing and
- Best in class stunts

Negative
- Shruti Haasaan
- Don't you mess with me song
- Soori's comedy

Deep Dive

Story and Screenplay - 1.5/2

The story of the movie doesn't have anything new and joins the list of Ajith's revenge theme movies. Director Siva has worked to his strength of Family entertaining masala movie and passed with distinction in his attempt. He has ensured audience to be engaged with the movie for 2:30 hrs approx with his fast paced screenplay.

Music & BGM - 0.6/1

Anirudh's music isnt at its best when compared to his previous albums but has done a decent job in his songs and BGM. Therri theme with visuals is top notch. Anirudh could be a possible replacement for  the successful Ajith+Yuvan combo.

Cast Performance - 0.8/1

Ajith's acting is at its best and Siva has ensured he brings the best from the actor. His dance performance in veera vinayaka and aluma doluma are best in his carrier. Ajith's acting could be possibly categorized before and after Vedalam.

Lakshmi menon has done a decent job with the role she was offered and stays in our mind as a sister.

Thambhi Ramhaya, Appu Kutty, Ashwin comes for a short time in the movie and stays in our heart for their fair performance

Suri's comedy sequence could have been better.

Shruti's Role could have been much more better and could have done better performance.

Stunt, Editing and Cinematography - 0.7/1

Silva has taken a great effort in terms of stunts. Though stunts were little illogical at places he has managed to give a stunt performance that is acceptable at the same time appreciable. Camera man Vetri has given us a colorful two and half hours in the songs and scenes. He has ensured to enhance Silva's and choreographer's efforts. Editor Ruben has given razor sharp cuts has made us sit two and half hours without taking frequent breaks. On a whole the technical team has done a good job behind the frames.

Verdict : A perfect family entertainer for Diwali from Ajith + Siva combo

Overall : 3.6/5
